General Requirements (Daily Substitutes)
- Education: Minimum 60 semester hours from an accredited college/university.
- Age: At least 18 years old.
- Application: Complete the online RPS application.
- Background: Pass required criminal and child protective service background checks.
- Training: Complete a course on Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect (often online).
- Long-Term & Licensed Substitutes
- Education :Often requires a Bachelor’s degree. Minimum 60 semester hours from an accredited college/university.
- License: May need a Virginia teaching license or eligibility for a Provisional License, especially for assignments over 90 days or 10 consecutive days.
- Experience: Experience teaching or with children is beneficial.
